The region of the Upper Stream Valley of Arda River is developing as an attractive tourist destination for hiking and cave tourism offering visits to caves with adjusted access and to wild caves. The area was named after the longest river in the Rhodope Mountains – Arda River, and it has kept its precious natural and cultural heritage. Here is the national architectural and cultural heritage site “Agushevi Konaci”, a feudal mansion complex unique for the Balkan region and the ruins of “Kaleto” fortresses near Koshnitsa and Mogilitsa villages. Twenty three karst caves from the region have been mapped. The most popular of which are Uhlovitsa cave, Borikovska cave, Nadarska cave, Golubovitsa cave system and Tipitseto cave. There are more than 20 different trails – hiking, biking, and horse riding which start from the villages of Smilyan, Mogilitsa and Arda and take tourists to fabulous places where legends from the past are still alive.
